Out and about

Living in the inner city means everything Central Sydney has to offer is not far away. As we move towards 2030 though, we are making it easier for people to find everyday goods and services right on their doorstep.

We want to see the villages in the City of Sydney area thriving. Each of our villages – including Glebe, Surry Hills, Darlinghurst, Pyrmont and Redfern - has its own unique character. Yet the concept of going down to the local shops has changed.  The feedback we received during our Sydney 2030 consultations shows many residents would like it to change back.

We’re supporting local business owners in our village hubs because we care about communities and in a big city, it’s nice to feel connected to your shopkeepers and neighbours. That’s why we encourage residents to get their hands dirty in a community garden.

If our villages, businesses and communities are thriving, Sydney is thriving.
