Sustaining our environment

We organise a range of cool programs for residents and business owners to learn and share their knowledge of living sustainably in the City.

The newest community program, Green Square Green Champs is soon to launch. Green champ volunteers will be invited to attend courses and work with a mentor to help their community get sustainable. Green Square is the site of the biggest urban renewal project in Australia.

Throughout the City, we’re constantly holding hands-on, practical Green Villages workshops on growing food in small spaces, greening your apartment, composting and worm farming.

In partnership with other councils, we work specifically with different sectors of the community, because everyone is different and we know we can’t adopt a ‘one size fits all’ approach. We’re sure to change our programs so, for example, Aboriginal people and those from diverse cultures can join in, teach us a thing or two and learn from each other.

Towards 2030 we are teaching and learning about sustainability to:

  • use less natural resources across the City
  • build community relationships
  • make Sydney environmentally sustainable.

Sydney 2030: green, global and connected. Go to the strategic directions.
