Architectural and planning excellence

Excellence in architecture, design and planning will maintain Sydney’s place as one of the most outstanding cities in the world. Better yet, it contributes to the liveability of the city, benefiting everyone who lives, works and plays in Sydney.

We’ve been raising the bar on our own projects, for some time and we keep lifting it higher. We’re happy to report it is paying off – the City has received 40 national and international industry awards of late. Various projects, across different fields, have taken home prizes for design excellence, sustainability and environmental initiatives, heritage and conservation, and building.

The award we love the most went to our state-of-the-art Surry Hills Library and Community Centre. At the 2011 International Architecture Awards in Chicago it won a prestigious Best New Global Design prize.

Awards aside, we’re committed to excellence in all our planning/development decisions and the design of the buildings and facilities we provide to our ratepayers and the wider community.

It’s not just about the way the City looks – we strive to make sure projects are sensitive to the surrounding environment, socially equitable and sustainable.
