Development in 2030
The City of Sydney approves all development in our Council area, in line with our planning requirements and NSW laws.
Development includes the construction of new buildings as well as changes or additions to existing ones. It also takes in the subdivision and rezoning of land.
While most of the built city that is here now will remain, by 2030 some parts of the City will undergo significant change and renewal. Over a 12 month period between 2010 and 2011 alone, we assessed 3,300 development related applications with a combined value of more than $2 billion.
As we move towards 2030, our focus when it comes to development is on architectural and planning excellence and strategic urban development sites.
We are also working on major, City-wide projects including affordable housing and a network of green infrastructure.
